So, my husband and I finally did it. We bought our first home! I can’t begin to tell you how relieving, exciting, and chaotic these last few months have been all at the same time while we fix up the apartment we’d lived in the last couple of years and start putting together our new home. One of my biggest stipulations when house hunting was the kitchen: it needed to have tons of counter space, lots of cabinets, and be open to the living room so I could cook and watch TV or converse with others while whipping something up.
And boy, did we ever find it! Beautiful granite countertops, white subway tile backsplash, six overhead cabinets, and seven lower cabinets, with seven drawers to boot. I’ve been in kitchen heaven since we’ve moved in! When it came to organizing my new cooking space, I realized I was prioritizing utensils and gadgets based on how often I’d use them, and thought to myself, I wonder what others consider as necessities in their everyday keto cooking life?
So, with that, I thought I’d share with you a few things today: Kitchen gadget must-haves on your registry (if you don’t already have them), and how to easily set up your housewarming, all online!
Five Kitchen Item Must Haves
Standing Cheese Grater
I don’t know how I made cheesy dishes before this thing. From Microplane-grating parmesan to top your Italian dishes to cutting chunky slices of cheddar for cauliflower mac-n-cheese, a standing box grater is a great staple for any Keto kitchen.
Garlic Press
A friend came over while I was cooking last week and proceeded to say “What’s that thing?” while I minced garlic cloves into a Bolognese sauce I was making. I was surprised that she’d never seen a garlic press! If you don’t have one of these, stop what you’re doing and go grab this stainless steel garlic press NOW. You’ll thank me later (bonus is that this one includes a silicone roller that makes it easy to take the peel off quickly).
Handheld Blender
This little handy dandy kitchen tool made it onto our wedding registry somehow after being recommended by a family friend, and I’m so thankful it did. Sometimes you don’t need the huge, heavy-duty food processor when you’re cooking sides or prepping ingredients. Whether you need to blend a sauce with the immersion blending wand, need to quick-pulse process some pico de gallo, or need to chop cauliflower into cauli-rice, this two-speed handheld blender does it all, and packs away conveniently into its own pocketed sack for easy storage.
Fine Strainer
I have the typical bowl strainers like the rest, but I didn’t realize how much I needed one of these strainers until I was gifted one for our wedding. I use it All. The. Time. From draining and rinsing shirataki noodles before making spaghetti to straining yogurt overnight to make homemade labneh, to sifting the almond flour and baking powder for fathead bagels, these fine mesh strainers are a must-have in my kitchen. The one I recommended also sits conveniently on top of a two-sectioned sink so that you can strain ingredients in the sink while prepping other items.
Drawer Organizer
I mentioned previously that we now have SEVEN drawers. Halle-freaking-lujah. However, some of these drawers are really wide and deep, and my utensils were getting strewn about each time we’d open and close the drawer. We invested in some of these bamboo expandable drawer organizers that stretch as much or as little as you want in the drawer. EVERYTHING HAS A PLACE AND IT MAKES MY HEART HAPPY. *insert happy dance*
Seriously, y’all. I can’t stress enough how having a functional, organized kitchen makes all the difference when it comes to being excited to tackle new recipes and whip up something great to eat. Whether your kitchen is small and quaint or Pinterest-worthy huge, organizing and being cognizant of where you’re placing your most-used items can make a world of difference. I encourage you to set aside some time in this next month and reorganize your kitchen to expedite prepping in the future!
Let’s get Digital: Amazon Wish Lists and Paperless Post Invitations
Whether you’re getting married soon, buying a new home, or have a birthday coming up, be sure to add some kitchen items like the above onto your registry/wish lists. Amazon makes this so easy, and they have a great return policy. I heart them so much for helping us get all our needed items bought and unnecessary ones returned after our wedding! You can even add items from other websites onto your list. I know! So easy.
Once we got our housewarming registry set up, it was time to tell the masses that we need to clink some glasses at our new humble abode. Paperless Post made this process so easy and most importantly, digital! I’m all for snail mail and believe it has its own time and place, but from a person who BARELY got all her wedding thank-you cards out JUST prior to the one-year anniversary from the wedding, I’ll take some digital bypasses where possible. Especially when we have a limited time to let people know about this event.
Whether you use their app or their website at https://www.paperlesspost.com/ the process is easy from start to finish. For essentially the same amount as a stamp to send paper mail invites (or less on some freebie designs!), you can send beautiful digital invites right to your recipients’ inboxes, and track their responses. Here’s one of the options we’re looking at:
I can’t wait to get these cute invites out to all of our loved ones, and more so can’t wait to show off our new kitchen with some delicious goodies at our housewarming party! Bacon and Cream’s spicy deviled eggs will definitely be making an appearance.
Congrats to all those out there getting ready to enjoy their new kitchens, and I salute those of you who are remodeling/reorganizing your current cooking spaces. You won’t regret it!
